This R&D process resulted in an innovative preservative solution, SharoSENSE™ Plus. This preservative solution is based on Natural Maltol, which was identified as a key ingredient in this concept.
Maltol is a naturally occurring organic compound primarily used in the food industry as a flavor enhancer (food additive E636). We researched and found out that Maltol has interesting properties as a preservative. Maltol can be found in the bark of larch tree, Katsura tree (Cercidiphyllum japonicum), in pine needles, and more. It comes as a white crystalline powder. It has EWG score of 1, GRAS, found in Cosing, and has good solubility in water.
